Gold-Filled: Appeal of Gold - Durability of Brass

  • What is Gold-Filled?

Gold has a timeless, universal appeal, but incorporating solid karat gold into your jewelry line can require significant investment. Gold-filled metals offer an accessible way to bring the classic warmth of yellow or rose gold into your designs while keeping them budget-friendly.

More valuable and longer-lasting than gold-plated options, gold-filled materials include a substantial layer of karat gold. Because they are more affordable than solid karat gold, gold-filled components are perfect for crafting elevated fashion jewelry or testing new design ideas.

  • How is it Made?

Gold-filled material is produced by applying heat and pressure to permanently bond a sheet of 12K or 14K gold to a brass core, creating a durable, tarnish-resistant surface. The bonded metal is then rolled and drawn into specific raw forms such as wire, single-clad sheet, or double-clad sheet.

In a single-clad sheet, the gold layer is attached to one side of the brass, leaving the reverse and edges exposed. For a double-clad sheet, the total gold content is split into two thinner layers, which are bonded to both sides of the brass core.
