The coating on this Azotic® Green Mystic™ topaz brings an iridescent shimmer to your jewelry designs. Use it to create an earring or pendant drop or use multiple gemstones in various sizes to create matched sets. Mystic topaz is produced by enhancing white topaz with a vapor deposition coating that creates vibrant flashes of color. Harsh chemicals will damage the coating; only wash with warm soap and water. A hard, usually transparent aluminum silicate gem material, faceted topaz has a brilliance that rivals more expensive gemstones, making it an economical alternative to more costly gems. Topaz forms in an orthorhombic structure with crystals that are usually prismatic. Pure topaz is colorless; impurities give the gemstone color. Gemstones can appear in a range of colors, with natural pink being the rarest. Most topaz colors are heat-treated or irradiated to enhance their color. In folklore, this gemstone is believed to dispel sadness and fear, to ward off poisons and to reverse infertility. The cushion cut is a classic style; it combines features of the oval cut with a deep cut and large facets.
