This 14-karat yellow gold filigree safety clasp features a smooth texture with an open-circles design. The clasp is prong-set with one 0.005-ct. round accent diamond (I1 clarity/G, H color). The clasp looks great when paired with pearl or beaded bracelets and necklaces. Safety clasps (also called pearl clasps) feature two parts that connect in two different ways, providing a fail-safe that helps prevent loss of higher-value necklaces or strands and are ideal for pearl and gemstone strands. The interior part of the clasp is a slender hook with notches along the outer edge; the exterior part is hollow except for a locking bar. The interior part hooks over the locking bar and then slides inside the exterior part, the notches catching along the inner sides to hold the clasp securely closed. Even if the notches fail for any reason, the hook keeps the strand in place.
