This freshwater cultured round pearl offers a lustrous gray color and is half-drilled, making it ideal for setting onto pearl pegs for pendants, drops or earrings. Highlight its color by setting it in silver or add contrast and warm tones to custom designs by combining it with yellow-gold findings. Use jeweler’s epoxy to secure the pearl on a pearl peg. Freshwater cultured pearls are cultivated in fresh water from mussels, often the triangle shell mussel (Hyriopsis cumingii), that are specially selected for their prolific production of nacre. It is not unusual for a single mussel to produce multiple pearls simultaneously. According to one legend, the pearl was formed from the tears of the goddess of love. For many, pearls are a symbol of pure heart and mind, honesty and integrity.
