Swanstrom Double-Flush Shear Cutters

These double-flush shear cutters (SV5E-RG) from Swanstrom deliver flush edges on both sides of the cut. They are ideal for cutting jump rings from a coil, as the flush edges mean you don't need to file jump rings before soldering, and there’s no pinched end to interfere with a clean close in chain mail. Cut wire up to 18 gauge along the jaw; a special notch near the joint lets you cut wire up to 16 gauge. The blades on shear cutters do not meet at the cut but rather pass one another as the cut is made—very much like scissor blades do. They are useful for cutting wire and cutting shapes from sheet. A dark, matte finish prevents eye strain caused by reflective glare and increases visibility of the workpiece.

• These cutters have a lap joint; one half of the joint overlaps the other, and a screw is set through both halves, allowing the joint to be adjusted as needed.
