This 16-gauge, 1/2-hard jeweler’s brass round wire, the bread-&-butter of jewelry making, is useful for creating components and for a wide variety of techniques. Hard wire is significantly work-hardened and, though it does not bend readily, it stubbornly holds its shape after forming; it is ideal for clasps and hinges. Keep in mind that hardness is changeable (by annealing or heat-hardening) and is relative among metal types (each temper will feel and handle differently from one metal to another). When finishing your pieces, also keep in mind that the harder the metal is, the brighter a finish it will take. This wire is packaged on 1-lb. spools. Jeweler's brass is a great choice when you want a color as close as possible to 14K yellow gold at a base-metal price point.
