This natural tiger’s eye oval cabochon features its distinct signature glow with banded, golden-brown hues that catch and reflect lights. Combine it with complementary-color gemstones such as onyx or black spinel to create complex designs as well as matching sets. Tiger’s eye is a pseudomorph variety of macrocrystalline quartz. The gem begins as fibrous crocidolite, a gray/blue silicate mineral; quartz becomes embedded between the fibers, eventually replacing the crocidolite entirely. The colors displayed in tiger's eye result from the levels of iron oxide in the quartz; higher levels produce the golden brown hues characteristic of tiger's eye. Because the quartz maintains the fibrous structure of the crocidolite, the gemstone remains banded. When properly cut and polished, the chatoyancy becomes clearly visible. Revered and feared as a talisman, tiger's eye has been reputed to impart an "all-seeing eye" to those who wear it.
