This collection of handmade totes offers a random assortment of eye-catching colors and patterns. The hands-on technique used to create the material gives each tote a discernible sturdiness and a smooth, fabric-like feel. Each tote has thick, supple braided cotton handles and is ideal for jewelry gift boxes, pouches and other primary packaging; totes provide a 'gift-wrapped' feel, becoming a gift-within-a-gift for customers. Created using a generations-old process by Kagzis in India, these totes are made from 100% post-industrial cotton scraps. Using a traditional wheel press, the cotton is separated into fibers and soaked overnight. Pulp is then strained, pressed into sheets and then hung to dry. Once ironed, the sheets pass to artisans for embellishment. The process is entirely non-toxic, tree-free and water is re-used for irrigation. Because each step in creating this material is done by hand, work and opportunities are created for the artisan community, providing increased wages for workers.
