This 1/2-hard sterling silver half-round wire offers a flat surface that makes it great for wire-wrapping on flat components and helps makes soldering more effective while presenting a round profile in your designs. The wire is great for creating loops, links and jump rings that have a flat inner surface. Metal that is 1/2-hard is partially work-hardened and will hold its shape under some stress; ideal for forming structures that will support other components. Keep in mind that hardness is changeable (by annealing or heat-hardening) and is relative among metal types (each temper will feel and handle differently from one metal to another). When finishing your pieces, also keep in mind that the harder the metal is, the brighter a finish it will take.
18-gauge wire is useful for clasps, jump rings, cuff bracelets, narrow-shank rings, neck rings.
