Get clean, durable casts with this zinc-free, true bronze casting grain. It delivers a deep ancient bronze color with rich red undertones and takes patina beautifully. Sold in five pound packages. Applications Any casting method. Casting and Cleaning In general, your casting temperature should be 100˚F (37.7˚C) above the liquidus point (somewhat hotter if the castings are intricate). Use a small amount of high-quality flux when melting with an open flame. We recommend Matt’s Casting Flux™. For further cleaning, mechanical means are recommended. Re-Using If you plan to re-use ancient bronze castings, remove the copper oxides from the surface in a pickling solution or by mechanical means. We recommend a minimum 1:1 ratio of new grain to used bronze. All re-used bronze should be clean and free of debris. Composition All ingredients are kept in an oxygen-reduced atmosphere during the melting and pouring process to ensure optimum deoxidation. The grain is composed of 90% copper with some tin; it fits into the CDA#90700 category.
