Visionary gem artist Glenn Lehrer first brought us the TorusRing™ cut, each with a diamond bezel-set in its center. In this new TorusGem™—featuring all the unique mastery of light from the original TorusRing—you now have the ability to set any gemstone you choose in the center of the jewel, creating your own unique look. To set your gem, insert a bezel in the 'eye' opening of the TorusGem, and set it with your 1.3mm faceted gemstone.
The TorusRing™ cut explodes the familiar model of the ‘expected’ gem cut. Drawn from “the most prevalent form in nature,” the TorusGem™, and TorusRing reflect the torus—and just what is a ‘torus’? Well, picture in your mind’s eye the center of a hurricane as viewed from outer space, or a galaxy as viewed from the Hubble telescope, or the water in a whirlpool, or even the brilliant iris of your own eye. Each Torus gemstone is hand-cut and hand-faceted to draw light from outside the gemstone and capture it within, endlessly multiplying, flowing from curved facet to curved facet. Glenn says, “I carve in light . . . bending light . . . turning each sparkling ray into an almost liquid medium.” A Torus cut takes about five times longer to create than a traditional round brilliant and features not only the ‘eye’ at its center but also a negative (inverted), faceted cone painstakingly carved into the back of the gemstone, behind the eye. The torus effect of the finished gemstone is hypnotic, heart-stopping and utterly heavenly.
Rio Grande is the exclusive distributor of the Lehrer TorusGem™ gemstone.
