This spring-hard, sterling silver sheet features a mirror finish and offers the benefit of having fabrication metal on hand when you need it; custom-cut it to the exact size and shape your design requires. (And collect all your scraps—you'll help recycle precious metals and collect cash for your efforts). Spring-hard sterling silver has little malleability and tends to spring back toward its original shape when bent by hand. This hardness is ideal for metal-etching and for ear wires, jump rings and head pins. Keep in mind that hardness is changeable (by annealing or heat-hardening) and is relative among metal types (each temper will feel and handle differently from one metal to another). When finishing your pieces, also keep in mind that the harder the metal is, the brighter a finish it will take.
18-gauge sheet is useful for pendants, mid- and narrow-width ring shanks and for cuff bracelets. As you know, metal sheet has as many uses as there are jewelers and designers who use it to achieve their vision; these suggested uses simply represent some of the more common applications of this metal weight.
This sterling silver sheet is sold in sizes up to 4" x 36" (one dimension must be 4"); due to the cutting capabilities of the shear, minimum purchase is 4" x 1/4".
