This hard copper heavy-wall tubing is ideal for hinges (accommodates 11-gauge wire), making beads, and for creating custom tube settings; this size is ideal for a 3mm stone. Choose a section of heavy-wall tubing with an outside diameter about 0.5mm larger than your stone, and enough thickness to allow you to cut a seat to support the stone. Hard copper tubing is significantly work-hardened and, though it does not bend readily, it stubbornly holds its shape after forming; it is ideal for clasps and hinges. Keep in mind that hardness is changeable (by annealing) and is relative among metal types (each temper will feel and handle differently from one metal to another). When finishing your pieces, also keep in mind that the harder the metal is, the brighter a finish it will take. This extruded copper tubing is packaged in straightened, pre-cut 12" lengths.
