The A-grade freshwater cultured semi-round pearls on this strand feature a natural peach color, smooth finish and nearly blemish-free luster. Freshwater cultured pearls are cultivated in fresh water from mussels, often the triangle shell mussel (Hyriopsis cumingii), that are specially selected for their prolific production of nacre. It is not unusual for a single mussel to produce multiple pearls simultaneously. According to one legend, the pearl was formed from the tears of the goddess of love.
