This Fretz® cross-peen hammer features one sharp and one rounded cross-peen face. The hammer is designed for anticlastic raising; its long, curved head matches the natural stroke of its use for consistent results with sinusoidal stakes. Raising hammers feature two wide, rectangular faces that are intended to be used with stakes to create forms in metal without thinning the metal—perfect for hammering concave shapes. The hammer is applied to the outside of the metal, forcing it onto the stake or other form, shaping it and leaving it relatively smooth (as compared to pieces raised with narrow cross-peen hammers). Created by Bill Fretz from a design by renowned metalsmith Michael Good, this jeweler’s hammer is built for toughness and durability. The oil-finished handle is made of Padauk wood, known for its strength, stability and beauty. It's specially shaped to give you a light touch, and the thin neck flexes slightly as you hammer for ultimate comfort. The head is cast from 420-grade stainless steel and tool hardened to 50 HRC for maximum durability and effectiveness.
