This Fretz® Silversmith wide rounded raising hammer has a broad, rounded cross-peen face that works well for creating concave shapes in metal, and a wide domed face that is great for larger jewelry projects where a heavier hammer is needed to form metal into a concave block of wood or a sandbag. The rounded edges will leave subtle shimmering hammer marks in the metal. This hammer is also a good choice for planishing deep concave surfaces, such as in a concave bracelet: the face does not have any edges to catch the metal, and the long head allows a good reach for deep concave forming. Silversmith hammers are sized-up jeweler's hammers, and have larger heads that are ideal for use with heavier metal gauges, small sculptures and hollowware. The face size, head as well as the weight, length and pistol-grip end of the handle are all designed to Fretz’s specifications for balance, control and precision. The oil-finished handle is made of Padauk wood, known for its strength, stability and beauty; it's specially shaped to give you a light touch, and the thin neck flexes slightly as you hammer for ultimate comfort. The head is cast from 420-grade stainless steel and tool hardened to 50 HRC for maximum durability and effectiveness.
