This large jeweler's hammer from Fretz® has a heavy, arched head with narrow cross-peen faces, which makes it perfect for stretch-forming in smaller areas, an ancient technique for shaping tighter curved forms (such as the area around an opening) by hammering the interior surfaces and changing the gauge of the metal. Ideal for use with heavy-gauge metals, the curved head follows the natural arc of the arm as you hammer so that a fairly deep concave surface can be easily worked against a wood form or a flat anvil. When used properly, the weight of the head, rather than the muscles in your arm and hand, drives the downward motion of this tool.
Designed by Bill Fretz, this jeweler's hammer is built for toughness and durability. The handle is made of Padauk wood, known for its strength, stability and beauty, and is oil-finished; it's specially shaped to give you a light touch, and the thin neck flexes slightly as you hammer for ultimate comfort. The head is cast from 420-grade stainless steel and tool hardened to 50 HRC for maximum durability and effectiveness.
