This large jeweler's raising hammer from Fretz® has broad, rectangular faces that move metal efficiently when used on the outer surfaces of vessels or other designs. Raising hammers are designed to be used in combination with stakes to create forms in metal without thinning the metal. The hammer is applied to the outside of the metal, forcing it onto the stake or other form. The hammer shapes and compresses the metal, leaving it relatively smooth (as compared to pieces raised with narrow cross-peen hammers). This hammer, when used with the Fretz R-101 raising stake, is also useful for raising angles. Designed by Bill Fretz, this jeweler's hammer is built for toughness, durability and economy of effort. When used properly, the weight of the head, rather than the muscles in your arm and hand, drives the downward motion of this tool. The oil-finished handle is made of Padauk wood, known for its strength, stability and beauty; the handle is specially shaped specially shaped to give you a light touch and its neck is narrowed just a bit to flex slightly as you hammer, providing ultimate comfort. The head is cast from 420-grade stainless steel and tool hardened to 50 HRC for maximum durability and effectiveness.
