Metal that is 1/4-hard is a bit resistant to bending but readily takes shape; it is ideal for forming more simpler shapes as it will work-harden more quickly. Keep in mind that hardness is changeable (by annealing or heat-hardening) and is relative among metal types (each temper will feel and handle differently from one metal to another).
