The dual-access options offered by this kiln and its ten pre-set firing programs make this kiln ideal for firing metal clay. Access the interior of the kiln from the front or from the top. Top-access, by lifting the stay-cool handle at the side of the lid, provides a traditional loading of workpieces into the firing chamber, using forming tools that require a vertical approach. It also offers easy placement of larger items such as slumping molds and forms. The hinged lid, with its built-in venting, allows for excellent ventilation opportunities.
Front-access is achieved by lifting the sides and top of the firing chamber off of the chamber bottom using the handle centered on the front of the kiln. This method provides access at the kiln floor level from three sides, ideal for precise placement of workpieces—especially those that cannot be moved or adjusted after they are placed. Front access also allows the use of forming tools that require a horizontal orientation. Precise, smooth-action hinges realign the chamber perfectly as it closes.
• Ten pre-set programs (five for Art Clay™) offer great versatility for metal clay artists. Four programs that can be programmed by the user ensure that you get exactly what you need from your kiln. Controls are situated at an angle that makes them easy to see and easier to access while you work.
• The offset stay-cool handle on the lid prevents burns and can be attached on either side of the lid depending on user preference. Its long, narrow shape makes it especially effective for lifting and lowering it.
• The centered chamber handle is heavier and centered to ensure a better grip and better support of the weight of the chamber.
• A multi-position vent leg allows you to vent the lid by 1/2' (to vent binder or adhesive fumes) or by 1' (to speed cooling of the kiln). Simply turn the leg to the desired position.
• A combination of firebrick and refractory fiber construction gives the kiln the best of both worlds. The sides and floor consist of firebrick with the heating element countersunk into the brick. The lid is lined with fiber that blocks heat, rather than absorbing it, so that it contains the kiln’s heat but does not throw off the amount of heat that a brick lid does when opened. Because it is lightweight, the lid is also easier to manage.
